FBC ESD 4 Proposition A

  • The state sales tax rate is 6.25%
  • The state allows local jurisdictions to charge an additional sales tax of up to 2%
  • The maximum total sales tax cannot exceed 8.25%
  • Emergency Services District (ESD) #4 is proposing a sales tax of 2% that would apply to all areas within the ESD #4 boundaries that have not already levied the allowable tax. This applies to Weston Lakes.
  • Since Fulshear and Simonton already have a 2% city sales tax, they will not be affected, but Weston Lakes and unincorporated areas within ESD #4 will pay an additional 2% sales tax.
  • ESD #4 already levies a property tax of just under 10 cents per $100 valuation.  This new sales tax will be in addition to the property tax.
  • Since Fulshear and Simonton are already “maxed out”, they will receive the same fire and EMS service as Weston Lakes but will not have to pay the sales tax to fund it.
  • Everyone living within ESD #4 can vote on this proposition, which means that the residents of Fulshear and Simonton can vote to impose a tax on the residents of Weston Lakes, without having to pay the tax themselves.
  • Since its incorporation, Weston Lakes has not paid sales tax on items ordered and delivered online. Passing Proposition A would end that.
  • Weston Lakes would be taxed twice for the same services for which Fulshear and Simonton are taxed only once.
  • Early voting runs from October 21 through November 1, and the nearest polling location is the fire station on FM1093, just west of Bowser Road.
