Typical Municipal Elections

If you wish to run for City Government, you will need to follow the deadlines outlined in the appropriate election year.

General Information

You can pick up a “Candidate Packet” with an application for a place on the ballot at the Weston Lakes City offices during regular office hours (Monday-Wednesday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Applications must be filed with the City Secretary. Write-in candidates may declare intent to run. (In order to be a write-in candidate one must have registered in the same way as regular candidates with the exception of paying a filing fee and having extra days to file the paperwork. The name must appear on the official ballot.)

To be eligible for municipal office, a candidate must be a US citizen, 18 years of age or older, have not been found mentally incompetent or convicted of a felony and have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the city for 6 months preceding the deadline for filing.

Please be sure you are registered at your present address in order to vote in elections.
